Goodbye Cory Aquino – The Mother of Philippine Democracy

August 5, 2009 | People

The whole country celebrated EDSA Revolution that happened on Feb 22 – 25, 1986. Almost 2,000,000 Filipinos were involved. In the midst of the crowd, one woman stood with much courage – a woman who changed the course of Philippine history, Corazon Aquino – Mother of Philippine Democracy.

Former President Corazon Aquino died last Saturday, Aug 1, 2009 after dealing with her colon cancer for more than a year. She died at the age of 76.

Today, we opened the television at 8:00 am in the morning watching the necrological service and we have heard the statements and feel the sentiments of the Aquino family and friends.

Kung titingnan ang buhay ng aking ina, patunay na hindi dapat manatali ang bayan sa kasalukuyang kinalalagyan.” – Sen. Noynoy Aquino (Cory’s Son).

“She takes care of people around her, no matter how big or small…. “She was always very concerned about us, raised my dignity as a person.”– Mel Mamaril (close-in security of Cory Aquino)

And almost everyone was in tears when Kris Aquino (Cory’s daughter) started to talk as she gave her thanks and gratitude to all the people who supported their family while they are in pain and struggle.

After the service, about 12:00 pm, thousands of people walk the streets from Manila Cathedral going to Manila Memorial Cemetery where Cory Aquino will be buried.  We can see the support of the Filipino people as they showed their love to this great woman.

The body of our late Cory Aquino will be buried under the grounds of Manila Memorial Cemetery but her ideals and good examples will never be buried but will remain in the hearts and minds of all the Filipino people.

Corazon Aquino showed the world that we need to stand, get involved and fight for justice and democracy. I think it’s time to change our attitude for the good of our country. We need to ask ourselves, “What have we done to make a good contribution to our country?” “What have we done to make a difference?”
