OnlineJobs.ph – Brings Overseas Jobs to Filipinos

August 11, 2009 | Internet | No Comments

While millions of Filipinos are flocking to other countries in order to take on employment and career opportunities, John Jonas, the founder of replacemyself.com and onlinejobs.ph has come up with the idea of bringing those overseas jobs straight to the Philippines. Onlinejobs.ph is the newest Information technology career hub that caters to foreign employers and connects them to thousands or millions of Filipino talent looking for telecommuting jobs.

Onlinejobs.ph will accommodate jobs and resume posts for the fields of IT, in particular, jobs in relation to content writing, programming, internet marketing, webmaster, graphics, and backroom support. While there are many sites that act as some sort of agent between talents and potential employers, this site will not function as a recruitment site. It will merely provide the means of connection, leaving both employers and employees the freedom to specify on their employee or employer needs and requirements. The best feature about this is, it allows both of client and staff to remain in their prospective clients, and work purely online.

When asked why choose the Philippines over other outsourcing countries, John Jonas said, “I have been able to outsource from many different countries myself, and based on my experience, the Filipinos have been the most flexible in terms of skills learning, language, and trainability.” This website aims to endorse the Filipino talent, not only for United States employers, but also to prospective employers all around the world.

Goodbye Cory Aquino – The Mother of Philippine Democracy

August 5, 2009 | People | No Comments

The whole country celebrated EDSA Revolution that happened on Feb 22 – 25, 1986. Almost 2,000,000 Filipinos were involved. In the midst of the crowd, one woman stood with much courage – a woman who changed the course of Philippine history, Corazon Aquino – Mother of Philippine Democracy.

Former President Corazon Aquino died last Saturday, Aug 1, 2009 after dealing with her colon cancer for more than a year. She died at the age of 76.

Today, we opened the television at 8:00 am in the morning watching the necrological service and we have heard the statements and feel the sentiments of the Aquino family and friends.

Kung titingnan ang buhay ng aking ina, patunay na hindi dapat manatali ang bayan sa kasalukuyang kinalalagyan.” – Sen. Noynoy Aquino (Cory’s Son).

“She takes care of people around her, no matter how big or small…. “She was always very concerned about us, raised my dignity as a person.”– Mel Mamaril (close-in security of Cory Aquino)

And almost everyone was in tears when Kris Aquino (Cory’s daughter) started to talk as she gave her thanks and gratitude to all the people who supported their family while they are in pain and struggle.

Fixed – Error: hal.dll is missing

August 2, 2009 | Computer, Personal | No Comments

After I reformat my laptop and install all necessary software, I thought everything would be ok. But I encountered another problem. After reboot, there is an error message: Error Message: Cannot Find \Windows\System32\hal.dll is missing or corrupt, please re-install. For those who have encountered this error, here are some of the things I have done to fix it.

Thinking that hal.dll is really missing or corrupted, I replaced it with the hal.dll from the installation CD. To do this:

- Insert Windows installation CD.

- Reboot from CD and press any key when prompted to continue.

- On the Microsoft Setup press R to open the recovery console.

- Enter Admin password

- On the command prompt type: expand  E:\i386\hal.dl_  C:\windows\system32\hal.dll

(E as the drive letter for CD-ROM and C for the windows partition)

- After the process type EXIT and reboot

A Rootkit Trojan on my Laptop

July 26, 2009 | Computer, Personal | No Comments

I was noticing weird things happening with my laptop. There are instances where the Data Execution Prevention (DEP) was blocking Generic Host Process for Win32 services, also known as svchost.exe and then my internet connection will be lost. Because I’m in doubt, I run an anti virus scan using BitDefender. After the scan, I found out that my laptop was infected by two Trojans.

I went through the Internet and research about the Trojan to find any information about them. They are new breed Trojans. They disguise as a Browser Helper Object (BHO) for Internet Explorer. If your computer is infected by this Trojan, every time you browse on using IE, you will be redirected to other sites telling you that you PC is infected and it will let you download an Anti Virus software. But by doing so, this will additionally install other viruses on your PC.

Longest Solar Eclipse in the 21st Century

July 24, 2009 | Personal | No Comments

This solar eclipse was the longest total solar eclipse to occur in the 21st century, and will not be surpassed in duration until June 13, 2132. Totality lasted for up to 6 minutes and 39 seconds, with the maximum eclipse occurring in the ocean at 02:35:21 UTC about 100 km south of the Bonin Islands, southeast of Japan. The uninhabited North Iwo Jima island was the landmass with totality time closest to maximum, while the closest inhabited point was Akusekijima, where the eclipse lasted 6 minutes and 26 seconds.

The eclipse was part of Saros series 136, as was the solar eclipse of July 11, 1991, which was slightly longer, lasting up to 6 minutes 53 seconds (previous eclipses of the same saros series on June 30, 1973 and June 20, 1955, were longer, lasting 7 min 04 and 7 min 08, respectively). The next event from this series will be on August 2, 2027. The exceptional duration was a result of the Moon being near perigee, with the apparent diameter of the Moon 8% larger than the Sun (magnitude 1.080) and the Earth being near aphelion where the Sun appeared slightly smaller.

In contrast the annular solar eclipse of January 26, 2009 occurred near lunar apogee and 7% smaller apparent diameter to the sun. And the next solar eclipse of January 15, 2010 will also be annular, with the moon 9% smaller than the sun.

This eclipse was seen partially in the Philippines. Check out the video.

July 19, 2009 | People | 3 Comments

My friend told me that there is an email spreading the news about Michael Jackson – that he died 20 years ago. It claims that Michael Jackson actually died years ago as investigators discovered his corpse at the Neverland Valley Ranch. It also claims that there is an impostor that has been playing the role of Michael Jackson for a number of years.

Here is the content of the email:

SANTA BARBARA, CA -During a search for evidence at the Neverland Valley Ranch, investigators discovered a corpse that has been identified as that of Michael Jackson, Santa Barbara police officials announced Tuesday.

“Coroners have officially pronounced Michael Jackson dead. From what we can tell, he died between 18 and 20 years ago,” forensic investigator Tim Holbrooke said. “We are not certain, at this time, who-or what-has been standing trial in that Santa Maria courthouse.”
