You Comment, I Follow
Most blogging platforms have “nofollow” attribute on their comments so that search engines will not count the link or give less value to that link (I will talk more about “nofollow” attribute on my next post). This was originally designed to stop spam comments. But it does not work. Instead of stopping spam comments, what it does is remove the value of the links for the visitors who leave relevant and important comments to your site.
I turned off “nofollow” on my blog comments. I download and install “dofollow” wordpress plugin. You can download it here. This is one way of showing my appreciation to people who leave comments to my site.
To filter and to avoid spam comments, I set all comments to be moderated. I also activated Akismet wordpress plugin. These are simple ways to stop spam and junk comments. Simple ways that a “nofollow” attribute is not capable of doing.
